trump: mr. bad example
There is no doubt in my mind that Donald Trump has taken a page out of the Communist Chinese playbook. He’s responding to protests in cities the way China responded to student democracy protests in Tiananmen Square in 1989. I travelled throughout China in 1990. One of the places I met locals was at “English Corner” where tourists gathered to talk to young people to help them practice English. One memory sticks with me. While the world heard about Tiananmen, I learned there were student protests in many cities. The army was called in where they massacred many nonviolent protesters. Here’s the Donald Trump connection. The Chinese recruited soldiers from rural areas with warnings that protesters threatened their way of life. Trump rails against cities and sends in troops, while his rural supporters nod their heads in agreement. Never mind the real violence like the Mormon Church mass shooting that happened well outside a big city. As a Canadian I am worried about what Trump will tell the ignorant masses about the “imaginary” danger my country poses, and that they’ll believe him.
